Nutritional Factors

There are numerous nutritional conditions which play a role in our healing and our ability to limit and even eliminate disease processes. Part of participating in a wellness program involves taking an active and educated role in dietary choices. Much of what makes it out into the mainstream is inaccurate and lacking in emphasis and outcome measurements obtained during the research process.

When a patient's history and clinical presentation warrants a further discussion regarding dietary requirements and recommendations, time is set aside to meet with our patients to do so. By walking through an injurious process such as an ankle sprain, we explain some of the "buzz words" heard in the health food stores such as "free radicals" and "anti-oxidants".

Many, many disease processes have been found to be associated with the body's inflammatory process, and that should make sense for us. As the body is trying hard to heal and fix itself, it utilizes our ability to create inflammation. As it is fighting a foreign condition, our body fights back with numerous chemical messengers intent on helping us fix the problem. It is when this state of chronic inflammation can not be limited that the symptoms of a disease process begin to manifest.

We explain the research determining why we as a planet suffer from these diseases when our ancestral history lacks these conditions. The results of research are explained in simple terms and in such a way that most people begin to feel as if "they just KNEW this" all along. Certain foods which we eat are contributing most definitely to this disease status. Most people acknowledge their own nutritional and digestive discomforts and find that we most certainly are NOT alone in our pain. This, too, is well documented in the literature. Our malabsorption status also affects us on a daily basis with altered bowel habits. ALL of us on a global scale are fighting against our genetic tendencies established tens of thousands of years ago. Man's "inventions" in the last 10,000 years have brought about changes in our mortality and morbidity rates simply defined in most recent years.

Once these conditions have been explained, we work with patients at their own comfort level setting weekly goals of how to achieve what so far research has shown to be the most effective and least inflammatory dietary lifestyle while attaining the highest degree of digestive absorption. Patients interested in feeling less pain, healing more quickly, lowering their glucose levels, losing unwanted weight, lowering their cardiac risk factors, or creating a digestive system that works with them and not AGAINST them is advised to follow this protocol.

We do not hesitate to share personal struggles with results of clinical research studies and resources and citations for those who want to be their own advocates and pursue this area. Together, we find a process which works for a lifetime of continued nutritional awareness.
